Privacy Policy

Ultimate Random Chess ("URC", "we") is a small independent chess game. This page explains, in plain language, what data we collect, why, and how to opt out. We try to keep this honest and specific rather than boilerplate.

What we collect

• Email address— only if you submit it to our waitlist ("notify me when the physical board lists on Amazon"). We use it for that single notification and nothing else.
• Gameplay data — the moves you make, games you create, and your (optionally anonymous) account, so the game works and the leaderboard functions.
• Technical data — IP address, browser/user-agent, pages visited, and approximate performance metrics. Standard server and analytics logging.

Third-party services we use

We use the following services, each of which may receive some of the data above:

• Meta Pixel & Conversions API — measures whether our ads work. Receives hashed email, IP, and user-agent for ad attribution.
• Google Analytics 4 — aggregate traffic analytics.
• PostHog — product analytics and session insight (which features get used, where people get stuck).
• Sentry — error monitoring, so we can fix crashes.
• Amazon Web Services — hosting and server logs.

Cookies and tracking

The Meta Pixel and Google Analytics set cookies to measure ad performance and usage. You can block these with your browser's cookie settings, an ad blocker, or your device's ad-tracking controls (e.g. "Limit Ad Tracking" on iOS, "Opt out of Ads Personalization" on Android). Blocking them does not affect your ability to play.

How to opt out

• Ad tracking: use an ad blocker or your device ad settings; adjust Meta ad preferences at facebook.com/adpreferences and Google at adssettings.google.com.
• Waitlist email:reply to any email from us asking to be removed, or contact us (below) and we'll delete it.

Data retention

Server logs are retained for up to 90 days. Waitlist emails are kept until the physical board launches (or until you ask us to delete them). Analytics data follows each provider's standard retention.

Your rights

You can ask us what data we hold about you, ask us to delete it, or ask us to stop processing it. Email us and we'll handle it. If you are in the EU/UK or California, you have additional rights under GDPR and CCPA respectively; the same contact applies.
